Operation Good Cheer helps underprivileged children.
SAWYER -- Underprivileged children across the U.P. will have a merrier Christmas this holiday season thanks to Operation Good Cheer. Saturday, a plane filled with donated presents arrived in Sawyer from downstate Oakland County.
The items will go to foster children who otherwise might go without having gifts to open.
Children presented wish lists a few months ago for items such as iPods, American Girl Dolls and bicycles.
For the staff at Teaching Family Homes in Harvey, it's a great way to get the kids excited for the holiday.
“Kids like presents,” said Business Manager Jill Krah. “It's Christmas and in these troubled times, it's hard to provide that for them financially. We can get them fed, keep them clean, love them all we want, but it does bring some normalcy. What kid doesn't want a hoodie with a brand across the top of it?”
More than 65 children at Teaching Family Homes will receive gifts from Operation Good Cheer.
