Doubt: A Parable playing at Forest Roberts Theater at NMU.
MARQUETTE -- It's an emotion we all have at one time or another, and a new play at N.M.U. will leave the audience guessing.
'Doubt: A Parable' isn't your typical production.
"It is not a musical, it's not a light piece of fluff, it's a drama," said director Keli Truckey.
There are only four cast members, but each character is very different.
"Father Flynn is a young, progressive style of minister and teacher," said Ben Filipowitz about his character.
'Doubt' is set in the 1960s at a Catholic school in the Bronx. The play is about the accusation that Father Flynn, the priest at the school, is engaged in misconduct with a student.
As the name suggests, there are no clear cut answers for the audience, and they are forced to come to their own conclusions.
"There's no answers to be found anywhere in here; there's just little snippets and clues for each side and you get those through the conflict between him [Flynn] and Aloycius and by the end you're not really sure," Filipowitz said.
Truckey said the play will leave you thinking about more than just the fictional characters...it could even make you doubt yourself.
"It's an idea between doubt and uncertainty, and you may come in thinking that you know and want to know, but this isn't the kind of place that's going to give you a clear beginning, middle, and end with a clear outcome--it will be more to each individual to make up their own mind."
'Doubt' will be playing at the Forest Roberts Theater at N.M.U. Wednesday through Saturday.
