Internet holiday shopping growing in popularity
MARQUETTE -- Move over "Black Friday," there's a new king of retail sales in town. The Monday following Black Friday has been coined "Cyber Monday" for the low prices that can be found all over the Internet.
In-store and online, Getz's in Marquette had a big weekend.
"The holiday season really is our biggest time of the year. The fourth quarter in general is normally about 70 percent of our business," said John Spigarelli, Getz's VP of Marketing and E-Commerce.
But not everyone is jumping on the Cyber Monday bandwagon. Johnson Sports has developed a reputation as being a shoe specialist in the heart of Marquette. They claim to know how to put the right shoe on the right foot, and though they respect the idea of online shopping, the close relationships they build with customers isn't something that can be found on any Web site.
"We're kind of an old Mom-and-Pop Shop, and we're referred to as a brick and mortar store. And so our strength is going to be in the relationships that we build with our customers as they walk in the door," explained John Thomsen of Johnson's Sports.
Even without a Web site to attract Internet shoppers, the sports shop had a great Cyber Monday.
"Our Cyber Monday, or our "in-store Monday" this year is up significantly from last year's Monday," Thomsen said.
Whether you're walking in or logging on, find the wrapping paper because the holiday shopping season has begun.
