IRON MOUNTAIN -- The Pine Mountain Continental Cup, better known as ski jumps, has been a tradition in Iron Mountain for 70 years.  Thanks to some late fund-raising, the event will continue for a 71st.

Kiwanis Ski Club, which runs the event, released a statement early this month saying ski jumps is in danger of being cancelled due to a lack of funding.

However, the club was able to raise $20,000 in the last two-and-a-half weeks to ensure the event takes place this January.

“Pine Mountain Continental Cup was in significant danger,” said Kiwanis Ski Club Correspondence Officer Susie Fox.  “Since that time we have landed some new sponsorship.  Some people have come on board.  This is not to say we have reached our final destination by any stretch of the imagination, but it's looking very encouraging.”

Fox said the club raised enough money to put on the event, but is still in need of more funding.

The event runs January 29-31 at Pine Mountain Resort.
