According to Superintendent Mike Maino, the total cuts from the state to the Gwinn district will be over $386,000.
GWINN -- At Monday night's school board meeting, they discussed the state budget cuts for the current school year.
According to Superintendent Mike Maino, the total cuts from the state to the Gwinn district will be over $386,000.
The board decided to be as conservative as possible for the remainder of the year, and then use the fund balance to make up the difference. And with another $661,000 possibly being cut from Gwinn for next year, they admit, at that time, they would have to make some major cuts.
Meanwhile, Maino says superintendents from several districts meet on a regular basis, trying to brainstorm ways that they can work together to handle the financial cuts.
Also in Gwinn, renovation work continues on the Gwinn High School, as the district prepares to bring middle school students into the building. Superintendent Maino says after the renovations are done, the middle school will be closed. The school board decided when that happens, they'll take steps to let go of the responsibility of the building.
The closure of the middle school will save the district at least $100,000 in annual operations.
