ESCANABA -- We're just a few days away from Thanksgiving and on Sunday, people in Escanaba made sure those in need don't go hungry this turkey day.

Members of the Delta County Jaycees packed potatoes, turkey, stuffing and other Thanksgiving necessities into baskets on Sunday morning.  They filled 180 of them as a part of Operation Thanksgiving Basket.

The food was then delivered to Delta County families in need this holiday season.

"Well the Retired Seniors Volunteer Program helped us," said Rachael Fountaine of the Delta County Jaycees.  "They had a volunteer day, so we kind of partnered with them this year.  We do the baskets every year, but they helped us primarily keep families together.  There are other events you can go to for Thanksgiving, but this way it keeps families together in their homes."

The food is purchased with money raised during the Jaycee's annual rubber duck race.
