Free health expo educates seniors.
MARQUETTE -- Exercise and activity could be the key to preserving your memory.
A free health expo at the YMCA in Marquette Monday was for 'Baby Boomers and Beyond.'
Attendees had their pick of activities with many different classes offered. Whether it was learning to draw or strengthening muscles, there was something for everyone.
The Alzheimers Association and the Marquette County Community Foundation worked with the Y to put together the event.
"To learn more about their brain health, it's a really important issue as the baby boomers age," said Alzheimers Association Regional Director Ruth Almen. "We have concerns about the impacts of Alzheimers and just other issues that come with aging."
YMCA CEO Lisa Coombs-Gerou said, "We want folks to know that once they get physical and get some activity in their day, it helps their day and they're staying cognitive a lot longer in their life."
About 150 seniors participated.
Organizers say they hope to make this an annual event.
