As clocks fall back this weekend, it's a good time to change the batteries.

This weekend we fall back an hour as we change the clocks for daylight savings time.

It's also a good time to change the batteries in your smoke detector.

If the device is chirping, you should replace the batteries immediately and test that they are working by pressing the button.

The Marquette City Fire Department suggests you change your batteries at seasonal clock changes, both in the fall and the spring.

"It's a good time of year to remember to change your batteries, that way it ensures it will get done and your smoke detector is working," said Brian Naze of the Marquette City Fire Department.

Smoke detectors should be replaced every 10 years.

Naze recommends that there be a smoke alarm in each bedroom, hallway, and floor of your home.  He also encourages having a carbon monoxide detector and also changing those batteries.
