ISHPEMING -- Members from a dozen or so area churches took to the streets in Ishpeming on Sunday.  Carrying banners and holding signs, they're helping raise not only money for hunger and poverty relief, but they're also bringing attention to the problem.

The CROP Hunger Walk, as it's called, took participants through the City of Ishpeming over to the Heritage Trail.

CROP stands for "Communities Responding to Overcome Poverty" and 25 percent of the donations raised through the event will go towards local charities.  The remaining amount will be distributed around the world.

"There are so many overwhelming problems in the world, but hunger is something that we can do something about," said pastor Katherine Finegan of Bethany Lutheran Church.

Last year's walk raised around $10,000.
