Jackson Trace Parkway goes directly to the Iron Industry Museum.
NEGAUNEE -- A new road will allow visitors to better access the Iron Industry Museum in Negaunee.
Various state officials cut the ribbon Monday morning to officially open Jackson Trace Parkway.
The ceremony opened with remarks from several people, including Sen. Michael Prusi, Rep. Steven Lindberg, and Thomas Friggens, Museum Director.
Sandra Clark of the Michigan Historical Center said they couldn't have completed the project without help.
"This new parkway is really the result of a distinct community effort," said Clark. "Since the museum opened, we've known that we've needed a better access point to US-41. It's the community that has stuck with it and pushed for it."
Clark also said over 200 community members personally donated money for construction of the road.
With the new road, officials say the museum can now remain open year-round.
