HANCOCK -- Seven students from Finland’s prestigious Sibelius Music Academy have come to the Western U.P. to show off their skills this week.

The classical, jazz and folk musicians are in town for Finlandia University’s 11th annual Sibelius Music Festival.

Starting in Hancock Tuesday night, the groups will perform three full-length concerts during their visit.

The folk duo and jazz trio also taught a music workshop at Finlandia on Tuesday afternoon.

“What we want to do with it is just reach out to the Finnish American community and to everybody with Finnish musicians and Finnish music; obviously that's of interest up here,” said event coordinator Karen Johnson.

There are still tickets available for the remaining concerts which will be held in Ishpeming on Wednesday and Calumet on Friday.
