Advantedge Training, with the help of three high school students, put on a low cost camp for area kids.
MARQUETTE -- A junior in high school, Zak Green is interested in going into sports medicine, which makes this summer job even more worthwhile.
Green and three other students have been working since June at Advantedge Training. They're paid by stimulus money from Michigan Works which has allowed Advantedge to host a three day youth sports camp for just $10 a child.
"We want to get as much youth involvement as we can and it's worked out great," said Director Brian Claus. "Some of the younger kids look up to the older kids, and the kids that we have come in have been tremendous."
Twenty-eight kids have signed up for the camp which offers an introduction to sports and health.
Green said, "We did cone drills yesterday, a kick ball game, we played soccer, drills; today we're going to be playing football, so that will be fun."
The students learn from employees at Advantedge and then are able to take those lessons to the field with the kids.
Advantedge is hoping to have one more camp using the student workers before school starts this fall.
