Residents paid tribute to the red, white and blue on Flag Day.
IRON MOUNTAIN -- It's often forgotten about between Memorial Day and Independence Day, but on Sunday, U.P. residents honored Old Glory on Flag Day.
The Iron Mountain Elks Lodge 700 held their annual Flag Day ceremony at the VA Hospital.
Flags were planted into the ground to honor veterans who have passed away. Post 50 Color Guard Rifle Team fired off a volley, while the bugle played "To the Colors."
Not only was Sunday about honoring the stars and stripes, but also our veterans and our freedom.
"To me, freedom is a national privilege gained for us by the hard work, blood, sweat, and tears that were shed by Americans of every generation, so this freedom could be passed on," said Andrea Roell.
Even though national Flag Day wasn't established until 1949 by Congress, the Elks have been honoring Flag Day since 1907.
