Evinrude motors to be highlighted

MARQUETTE -- The Marquette Maritime Museum has opened its doors for the season and they'll be featuring some new exhibits.

For a small fee, visitors can see the largest lighthouse lamp collection or they can tour an active lighthouse.

By mid-June they plan on opening a new exhibit highlighting the history of the Evinrude motor.

If you're interested in the lake and its history, officials say this museum is for you.

"Marquette was pretty much founded because of the water system here; without that they wouldn't have gotten supplies in, wouldn't have gotten iron ore out, which was a big part of the settling of Marquette," said Carrie Fries of the Maritime Museum.

The museum is open until October and is open daily, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
