Last weekend to catch a performance by the Players de Noc.
ESCANABA -- This is your last weekend to catch a performance by the Players de Noc in Escanaba. They're wrapping up their season with a comical play that could leave the audience with a different perspective on life.
A talented actor has finally been nominated for an Oscar...but tragically finds himself six feet under before the ceremony.
"And the winner is..." takes a trip through Tyler Johnes's afterlife as he tries to bargain with the man upstairs.
"He finds himself at heaven's door and he makes a deal to go back to earth to find out whether or not he won the best supporting actor Oscar," explained actor, Dale VanDrese.
And through the bargaining he learns a little about himself along the way.
"He learns he wasn't a very nice guy in the beginning, and it turns out he affected more people's lives maybe in a positive way in the end," VanDrese said.
"And the winner is" is the final performance of the season for Players de Noc. Director Kathy Leduc felt it was the right choice for a season finale.
"It was because of Mitch Albom," explained Leduc. "I really like his work and I decided to look for a show and to see if there was something we could put on the stage. This is his second comedy and it's a very funny show. It was decided it would be a good ending for the season."
And actors feel all audiences will take a lot away from the performance.
"I think it's a lovely comedy, but also it has an underlying religious theme which should appeal to all the families about our role here in life," explained actor Terry Peerless.
So does Tyler get to find out if he won the Oscar? You can find out yourself this upcoming weekend.
"And the winner is," performances will take place at the Bonifas Arts Center in Escanaba this Thursday, Friday and Saturday, all at 8 p.m.
