After months of waiting, medical marijuana will become legal in Michigan on Saturday.

This new law will allow patients to grow and use small amounts of marijuana legally to relieve symptoms from diseases such as cancer, glaucoma, AIDS, and Lou Gehrig's disease.

To apply for the marijuana therapy, you need to go on-line at the Michigan Department of Community Health Offices on Monday.

It'll then be up to a doctor.

"Most medical conditions such as pain, they have drugs that are even more effective than marijuana would be, so it's important that people connect with their physician to discuss this issue," said Community Health Director George Sedlacek.

Qualifying patients will receive an identification card which will protect them from arrest.
