Teens text an average of 2,200 times a month.
HOUGHTON -- Nationwide, teens text an average of 2,200 times a month. That's once every twenty minutes.
Scott Sherrill, a Computer Support employee with the Copper Country Intermediate School District, told the parents of Houghton Middle School students that filters should be considered for cell phones.
He said that teens are increasingly sending explicit or nude photos of themselves or texting all night, which interrupts sleep.
"It's your phone, you're paying the bills. Look at where they're going. Look at who their friends are. Look at what messages they're receiving. Look at your bill. See when they're getting calls. And talk to your kids," said Sherill.
Sherill says parents and schools put filters on computers, but most cell phones today are mini computers with cameras and Internet.
