K.I. SAWYER -- Swimmers in Sawyer took to the pool to raise money for a good cause.

The South County Fitness and Community Center, or the W, hosted its first ever Diabetes Swim-a-Thon.

More than a dozen participants swam over 400 laps to raise money for the U.P. Diabetes Outreach Network.

They've been collecting pledges for the number of laps they intended to swim, and swimmers showed that every lap counts.

"I swam 10 laps today because I wanted to raise money for diabetes," said one participant.

"Organizers hope the event grows even bigger next year.
