DELTA COUNTY -- A Delta County man faces numerous felony charges after allegedly stealing a car in Baldwin Township, then leading police on a high speed chase early Thursday morning.

Benjamin Johnson, 19, of Rock is charged with unlawfully driving a vehicle, fleeing and eluding police, and operating under the influence of a controlled substance.  Johnson is also charged with breaking and entering a building with intent, and receiving and concealing stolen property.

Around 2 a.m. Thursday, State Police say they tried to pull Johnson over in the stolen vehicle, but Johnson sped away.

The high speed chase lasted about 25 miles and ended on "I" Road in Ford River Township when Johnson lost control of the car and damaged a sheriff's department vehicle which was also involved in the chase.

Officials say Johnson confessed that after stealing the vehicle, he broke into a business in Perkins to steal alcohol.

Johnson is being held in the Delta County Jail on a $25,000 cash bond.
