CHOCOLAY TOWNSHIP -- The Marquette County Sheriff's Department is short a patrol car after a weekend fire.  It happened early Sunday morning on Apple Trail in Chocolay Township.

According to the Marquette County Sheriff's Department, Deputy Dewayne Ward was responding to a residential alarm when the vehicle became bogged down in deep snow.

After contacting Central Dispatch for help, Ward smelled smoke and got out of the car when he saw flames coming out from under the hood.

He was unable to extinguish it, but was able to pull a lot of equipment out of the burning car.

The patrol car is a total loss and the cause of the fire is under investigation.
