This year's Midnight Run and Jack Pine 30 sled dog races were a success.
MARQUETTE COUNTY -- Thirty-two mushers completed this year's Midnight Run which started in Gwinn and ended in Munising.
Ken Josefsen of Skandia, MI took first place with a finish time of 8 hours, 14 minutes. In second, Dave Turner of Sandy, OR finished at 8 hours, 30 minutes, and finishing in third place with a time of 8 hours, 35 minutes was Don Galloway of Makenin, MN
Rounding out the weekend of sled dog races in the U.P. was the Jack Pine 30.
It's a six dog, 30-mile race that begins in Gwinn and ends in Marquette. Twenty-one teams competed in the race.
Thirteen-year-old Caitlin Curtis of Rumely, MI finished first with a time of 2 hours, 43 minutes. Another young female musher, Laura Bontrager of Newberry, MI was second, following just two minutes behind the first place finisher. In third place, Laura's father, Stan Bontrager also of Newberry, MI finished with a time of 2 hours, 53 minutes.
