MARQUETTE -- Excitement was high on Washington Street in downtown Marquette as mushers started the U.P 200 just after 7 p.m.

Spectators lined the edge of the race chute, hoping to get a look at the 27 teams as they took off.

People brought cameras and video cameras to capture the start; and while some came to cheer on specific teams, other's came to cheer for everyone.

"I cheer for the dogs," says Jamie Closh of Marquette.  "That's who I cheer for.  Those dogs are the athletes, and they're pumped up and they just love doing it.  You can see it, and that's what's exciting about it."

Racers will start to cross the finish line in Marquette on Sunday morning.
