Don't walk on thin ice.
MARQUETTE -- Whether snowmobiling, fishing, or walking on the ice, you always need to be prepared.
With our recent warm spell the Coast Guard says the ice is very treacherous. No matter when you go out on the ice, they recommend you tell someone where you're going, how long you'll be gone, and bring a friend with you. They also say bring a life jacket, marine radio, or cell phone.
"Dress warm, and if you have flares, take them out with you; flash lights, any sounding device you can have on you, take that with you, or a pair of screw drivers--if you fall, it can help you pull yourself out of the ice," recommends USCG Seaman, William Pless
The Coast Guard also recommends you watch the weather beforehand to find out what conditions will be like on the ice.
