Despite a bad economy, people are still spending money on flowers.
MARQUETTE -- The National Retail Federation expects Valentine's Day spending to reach $14.7 billion. That's just slightly down from last year.
If love conquers all, then maybe Valentine's Day can conquer a bad economy.
Lutey's Flower Shop in Marquette found that consumers are still spending about the same amount on floral arrangements for Valentine's Day as what they've spent in the past. But to make sure they didn't go into the red during the holiday, Lutey's changed up how they ordered flowers from their suppliers.
"I didn't get a whole bunch at once because you order the flowers well in advance and hope that they sell," says owner Sarah Ruuska, "and this year, we were able to control it a little bit by having shipments come in throughout the week."
The number one seller was red roses.
