HANCOCK -- Influenza is starting to hit the Western U.P. with a few reported cases to the Western Upper Peninsula District Health Department this week.

While the health department is out of flu shots for the year, several hospitals and doctor's offices, like Portage Health in Hancock, still have doses available for patients.

And it's not too late to get a flu shot.  The season generally peaks in February and runs through March.

"The influenza season hasn't really hit the U.P. yet, and if you have not gotten your flu shot, there's still time to get it," said Paula Polso R.N. from Portage Health.

Influenza was reported in the Eastern U.P. last month.
