AUTRAIN TOWNSHIP -- Authorities continue to investigate a fatal snowmobile crash Friday morning in Alger County.  It happened just after 8:30 a.m. on Hovey Lake Road in AuTrain Township.

A group of six snowmobilers struck a snow embankment at an intersection, causing them to lose control.

Two of the riders were transported to Munising Memorial Hospital and then later taken to Marquette General Hospital.

According to state police, 42-year-old Nicholas Waranka of Port Washington, Wisconsin died as a result of injuries sustained in the incident.

Forty-four-year-old Paul Murphy of Lake Quivira, Kansas is currently in ICU at Marquette General.  His condition is unknown.

The four remaining drivers were uninjured.

It's believed that excessive speed and following too closely played a part in the crash.
