FastCare is located inside Shopko.

HOUGHTON -- The new FastCare at Shopko in Houghton is fairly popular among residents.  It averages around seven patients a day and recently, medical professionals saw 12 on one day.

The Aspirus Keweenaw run clinic charges a flat $49 fee for patients to be seen by a nurse practitioner or physician's assistant.

Some people have been directed to area emergency rooms because their symptoms were too serious for the walk-in clinic, but most were treated.

"We're seeing a lot of upper respiratory kind of symptoms, including sinus infections, ear infections, sore throats," said nurse practitioner PeriAnn Wasi, "so, it's nice if they can't get in to see their doctor, they can come on in here and get some quick service."

A number of Shopko stores in the U.P. have the in-house medical clinic.
