A bolder sound is infiltrating the Marquette music scene.
MARQUETTE -- After years of playing different instruments, Kevin Baker finally found a home in the keyboard and shortly thereafter one unique band.
"Terra Cotta is pretty eclectic,” explained the Marquette native. “That's what's interesting about playing with them. They cover a wide range of different genres."
And Terra Cotta Half-Life has certainly hit a high note among fans since its start four years ago. They’ve been offering a cohesive, but distinct sound not normally heard in Marquette.
"It allows for a lot of freedom, a lot of creativity,” Baker said. “You don't get pinned down into one specific genre."
Audiences are far from pinned down when they listen to Terra Cotta perform, but this band wants to move minds as well as bodies.
"I'd like for people to take away a feeling of community and culture,” said singer and bass player Obadi Ahmetivier. “We play a lot of world music and different styles. So we want to open people's minds."
Those interested can hear Terra Cotta at the Culinary Journey at the U.P. Children's Museum this Sunday, January 25.
