For the first time, tattoo artists are all under the same regulations.
MICHIGAN -- The new year brings a new tattoo law, regulating all tattoo artists across Michigan for the very first time.
In the past, the 83 counties in the state were left to regulate parlors on their own.
For example, in Houghton County where The Edge tattoo parlor is located, a business must have a license, as well as its artist.
But in Delta County, there were no regulations for tattoos.
"I think it's fantastic," says The Edge owner, Jeff Stroud. "The best thing about the law is the ability to prosecute scratches or people that are tattooing out of their homes."
The new law will require tattoo parlors to pay $500 for a three year license and be subject to health inspections.
