Forestry exhibit draws attention
ESCANABA -- One of the most popular exhibits at the U.P. State Fair has received national recognition.
Recently, the "Growing Up Foresters" exhibit won three national awards from the the International Association of Fairs and Expositions.
The exhibit gives kids a hands-on lesson on the importance of the forestry industry and the environment in the Upper Peninsula.
It won first place for agricultural-educational event for fairs with up to 100,000 people in attendance, best of division, and the judges' choice award which beat out 300 other exhibits across the nation.
"It was such an honor to receive these awards for my sponsors and for the fair and just to showcase what we have here in the Upper Peninsula. Whoever would have guessed? We all know it, but a lot of them don't," said Special Events Coordinator, Debbie Mulvaney.
The exhibit has been put on at the State Fair for three years.
