CHOCOLAY TOWNSHIP -- Last week, Bell Hospital made the decision to close its Harvey walk-in clinic.

In what is being described as a new era of medical community cooperation, Marquette General Health System has agreed to absorb Bell's Harvey walk-in patients at its Lakewood Medical Clinic, also located in Harvey.

Bell was in need of more medical personnel to expand clinic services at its new Ishpeming hospital.

"This allowed us to free up those folks.  MGH has assured that the Harvey population will not see anything diminished in their health care coverage," said Bell Marketing Director, Dave Edwards.

Gary Muller, President and CEO of Marquette General Health Systems, released this statement:  It is a shared goal of Upper Peninsula hospitals to provide quality care close to home.  This collaboration is an example of how we're achieving this for the residents of Harvey.
