MARQUETTE -- Hundreds of residents will be crowding the streets of downtown Marquette to watch the ball drop Wednesday night, and police are asking them to keep it a family-friendly event.

Marquette City Police are cracking down on drinking at the ball drop, especially among juveniles.  Any open bottles will be confiscated.

But with a couple thousand revelers expected at the event and just a dozen or so officers, police are asking residents to have consideration.

"There are small children; parents bring their small children down there," says David Schniederhn, Marquette City patrolman.  "Just try to watch the drinking, respect others, and respect us down there, too."

And drivers should be happy to hear the Marquette City Police says they are suspending the winter parking ban for Wednesday night and Thursday morning.
