Unofficial and volunteered help, leads to recount again

MARQUETTE -- The count was on once again for the prosecuting attorney's seat in Marquette, this time unofficially.  And the results remain almost the same.

Cathy Church picked up one net vote countywide.  Church was said to have lost to incumbant Gary Walker in November by some 1,800 votes.  She suspended an offical recount last week after not all city ballots boxes had been secured.

Tuesday morning, over a dozen volunteers helped count those remaining six precinct ballots.

City Clerk Dave Bleau says even though it was unofficial, the second recount needed to be done.

"I'm very pleased that it was done.  I was very pleased to do it.  Very happy with the people that volunteered to help conduct this unofficial recount because I think the people of the city needs to know that we conducted a good election and all the ballots that were cast were properly counted," said Bleau.

Since all workers were volunteers, Tuesday's recount came at no cost to the city.
