MARQUETTE -- You can start planning for the New Year's celebration in downtown Marquette.

Mona Lang of the Downtown Development Association confirmed Monday that the ball drop will take place at midnight on New Year's Eve.

The necessary funding has come through.

Three primary sponsors have come forward to pay for police protection and public works costs.

The Board of Light and Power, Downtown Eye Care, and Fatboys Neighborhood Bar and Grill have all offered to pay $1,000 each to offset the costs of celebration.

The ball drop, which takes place at Front and Washington Streets, attracts up to 4,000 party goers.
