WWII vets reunite after over fifty years.
IRON MOUNTAIN -- They were a group of soldiers stationed in Hawaii in the year 1945 and their names were Bruce Peterson, Clarence Carlson, Emery Steiner, and Irving Perkins. The only thing they had in common was that they were all from the Iron Mountain area. For that reason, they all posed for a picture, each holding a copy of the Iron Mountain News.
"Well, we had a picture sitting around for sixty-some years," said Steiner.
It's been 63 years, to be exact, but the four men have finally managed to reunite under one roof--and even posed for a new picture with the local newspaper. For them to be together again is exciting, but also a bit of a shock.
"Well, it's nice to see these guys," said Carlson. "Haven't seen them in a long time."
Finding one another was almost a coincidence--Steiner happened to be talking to Perkins' daughter, Marcia.
"My daughter found out that he was the same age as I am and she started questioning him," said Perkins.
That conversation led to the reunion, where the foursome reminisced about the past and discussed the present. The four men are in their early 80s now, which meant that, at the time of the war, they were among some of the youngest men drafted.
As they chatted over coffee, the time seemed to melt away as they talked like the old friends they are. It may have taken them 63 years to get back together, but hopefully it'll be a lot sooner than that before they do it again.
