Ford's Mulally says it would start a chain reaction.
DETROIT (AP) -- Ford Chief Executive Alan Mulally says a bankruptcy filing by General Motors or Chrysler would drag his company and industry suppliers into bankruptcy.
Mulally reiterated Monday on WJR-AM's, "Paul W. Smith Show" in Detroit, that Ford believes it has "sufficient liquidity" to manage its business through the current recession without government support.
But Mulally says a bankruptcy filing by GM or Chrysler would start a chain of events "devastating to the U.S. economy."
Sen. Chris Dodd said Monday on ABC's "Good Morning America" that overhauling the top management of Ford Motor Co., Chrysler LLC, and General Motors Corp. is necessary as a gesture of good faith with the American public.
Mulally said in the interview he will serve as long as Ford's board wants.
