ANN ARBOR -- University of Michigan economists say the state will be "stuck in reverse" through 2010.

The report from the university's Research Seminar in Quantitative Economics said the state will struggle next year because of the ailing auto industry and will continue to lose jobs for the next two years.

But the news isn't all bad.  The economists say 2010 will be much better than 2009, however, they predict that Michigan won't actually see job growth until 2011.

Michigan is losing a higher proportion of its high-paying jobs than other states.

The economists expect the state to lose 108,000 jobs next year on top of the nearly half-million lost this decade.
