BESSEMER -- A Wakefield man who seriously injured a woman in a domestic dispute was sentenced Thursday.

Forty-three-year-old Robert Joseph Smith was ordered to serve one year in jail and pay fines and court costs.

Smith pled no contest to attempted assault with intent to do great bodily harm less than murder.

The victim had to be airlifted to a hospital in Duluth, but was reported to be in good condition not long after being admitted in August.
