MARQUETTE -- Cathy Church, who lost in last week's election to incumbent Marquette County Prosecutor Gary Walker, wants a recount.

She filed a petition on Wednesday for a full recount of all ballots cast in last Tuesday's election.  She's filing for the recount on the grounds that the optical scanners used in counting the votes might have been faulty.

"So after the recount, we'll know that we either have machines that are operating correctly or that we have machines that are going to be corrected and fixed," said Church.

Church, an Independent, lost to incumbent Walker, a Democrat, by about 1,800 votes.

The recounts will likely occur in early December and will cost about $5,000.

When contacted by TV6, Walker called the recount a waste of taxpayers' money.
