The MSHS Dance Team performed six routines for their annual fund-raiser.
MARQUETTE -- You've probably seen them before at football and basketball games. The Marquette Senior High School Dance Team graces sporting events with their presence at half time, but on Monday night, they performed for a different crowd.
Rhythm, endurance, memory, and whole lot of dedication is what it takes to be a member of the MSHS Dance Team and to be able to take center court at their "Not Just Another Half Time Show."
"We usually start plugging away at each dance from the beginning through the end," says member Carly Bruns. "It probably takes us about two to three practices by the time we perfect it, critique it, and get it ready to perform."
Stepping into the spotlight, the team performed six different routines.
"It's definitely not an easy thing to do," stated member Meagan Castro- Lopez. "We believe dance is a sport."
And if you don't think these young ladies work up a sweat, try again. In kick one routine, there are more than 50 kicks.
"It takes a lot of practice because you need a bunch of core muscle," commented member Anna Wahlstrom.
The dance team performs everything from jazz to pom, but don't call them cheerleaders.
Five other Marquette-area groups also performed at the "Not Just Another Half Time Show."
The proceeds raised from the event will go to support the MSHS Dance Team's future endeavors such as competitions and dance camps.
Although their love of performing was what brought them together, the high school dancers say it's the friendships they've made throughout the year that have kept them in line.
