ESCANABA -- An Escanaba man is heading to prison for two break-ins he committed earlier this year.

Twenty-eight-year-old James Haack was sentenced to 3 to 20 years in prison by Delta County Circuit Judge Stephen Davis on Monday.

"You just don't commit crimes, and these offenses were simple for you to avoid and all you had to do was say no," said Judge Davis to Haack in court.  "You knew where these offenses would lead you and you let yourself go there."

Haack broke into two Escanaba businesses; one in March, the other in July.

He was charged as an habitual offender because he has two prior felony convictions, so his maximum prison time was doubled.
