Ishpeming students participate in national mock election.

ISHPEMING -- Just because they can't officially cast a ballot in this year's election doesn't mean area youth aren't letting their voices be heard.

Students at Phelps Middle School in Ishpeming took part in a national student mock election Thursday.

After registering, the kids each filled out an online ballot for their choice for president, senators, and representatives.

The students have been researching the candidates in preparation for the election.

"It gets kids involved in how they know what the president is doing for the country and what they will be able to decide when they're older," said Alyssa Gray, an eighth grader.

The votes will be tabulated from all participating schools across the country and the winners will be announced next week.
