He pled guilty to sex with a minor.
ESCANABA -- A young Escanaba man will spend at least the next few years of his life in prison on sexual assault charges.
Eighteen-year-old Tavaris Jackson was sentenced on Friday to 3 to 15 years in prison for criminal sexual assault. In May, he pled guilty to having sexual relations with a girl under the age of 15.
"My abilty to apply a just sentence ends when the legislature says it must," Judge Stephen Davis told Jackson. "My sentence reflects the will of the people you have transgressed, surrendering to temptation, and against that will, I cannot oppose."
Jackson will be credited for the 143 days he's already spent in jail.
