NEGAUNEE -- Swimming, running, playing sports...what more could a kid ask for? This is what students at Lakeview Elementary School are doing for part of their day, every day, during Wellness Month.
"We've done this for many, many years, and it's a celebration of wellness," said Physical Education teacher Lisa Bigalk.
Parents, grandparents, and students all love it.
Lakeview student Grace Rogers said, "I think that it's just good for the kids to learn how to swim."
"I think it's wonderful because we have such a long winter, and they need to have some kind of physical activity," said Karin Meeks, grandmother of a Lakeview student.
Lakeview student Maya Hill said, "I like swimming because it keeps us healthy."
In addition to the different types of exercise, eating healthy foods is another part of the program.
Food Service Director for Negaunee Schools, Hazel Blandford, said, "Our part is trying to teach the kids to eat a lot healthier."
Fruits, vegetables, and whole grain are now what the lunches mainly consist of.
Lakeview student Makenna Champion said, "You could get strong."
The goal for the Wellness Month program is to help students have a better understanding of which foods are healthy, and that any type of exercise is great for their bodies.
