MUNISING -- Skiers are getting ready for the 4th Eki Loppet Cross Country Ski Race at Valley Spur in Alger county. The race will be Saturday, January 5. Racers have their choice of a 7K or 14K trail. The cost for the race is $20 and that money goes to a program at Valley Spur that teaches children how to ski. Organizers say this is one of the earliest ski races in the area.

"People use it as a jumpstart to get their skiing going that year; whether they're going to race or not, it's just a fun race," said Carl Hansen, race coordinator. "People who ski the trails out here really enjoy the up hills and the down hills. Out here the scenery is fantastic."

Registration will only be held the day of the event. The race starts at 10 a.m.
