MARQUETTE -- The City of Marquette Senior Task Force received an overwhelming amount of response from the public in the recent weeks about plans for the current Marquette Senior Center's future. They will look for feedback from the public about the plan and will consider all thoughts involving the senior center.

Chairman of the Senior Task Force Stanton Bigham said, "We're looking at what's best for the seniors, not what's best for the city, not what's best for the people who work for the Senior Center. It's actually for the citizens that attend the Senior Center, so that's really what we're trying to do."

The Task Force wants to give the public the opportunity to tell them how they feel about the center. There are three possible options for the Senior Center in the future.

The first is to do an upgrade at the current Senior Center. The second, to move it to Lakeview Arena. And the third, to just do nothing.

Stanton said, "Right now option two, with going to the Lakeview Arena, financially, is the best option, but we're not going to make that decision ourselves. We're just making a recommendation."

There are four meetings in March regarding this issue. Two will be held on March 11 at 11:30 a.m. and 1 p.m., and one will be held on March 14 at 12:30 p.m. All three meetings will be held at the current Senior Center.

Another will be held March 20 at 6:30 p.m. in the Citizen's Forum at Lakeview Arena.

Everyone is encouraged to attend the meetings and give feedback to the Senior Task Force on this issue.
