Wine selling season has begun for one retailer in Escanaba, and they say this batch could bring something special for connoisseurs

ESCANABA -- Wine selling season has begun for one retailer in Escanaba, and they say this batch could bring something special for connoisseurs.

Leigh's Garden in Escanaba celebrated their season opening on Saturday. They've got 600 gallons of wine on stock for customers, that's 200 more than last year after they sold out early. The wine was just bottled about a month ago, and owner Leigh Schimdt says last summer's weather made things easier for most winemakers.

"This year was a culmination of a summer that was really warm, and had an exceptional growing period. We ended up with some wines really low in acid and higher in PH for a better balance," winemaker and owner Leigh Schmidt said.

Leigh's Garden has two wines made from Michigan grapes in the Garden Peninsula on stock this season.
