Marquette voters approve revisions to city charter

Almost 73 percent of voters were in favor of revising the charter

MARQUETTE -- Voters in the City of Marquette overwhelmingly approved the adoption of the revised city charter.

The unofficial results from Tuesday's election showed almost 73 percent of the voters were in favor of revising the charter, which had been in effect for sixty years.

The new charter approved by voters updates ethical standards and adjusts Marquette's fiscal year to coincide with state and federal ones.

The final vote for the Marquette city charter: 5,193 in favor - 1,935 opposed.
