MARQUETTE -- With Finnish heritage prominent in the U.P., you may be interested in learning more about their music culture.

Finlandia Foundation Lecturer of the Year, Glenda Goss, will be speaking at NMU about the impact of Finnish music.

Goss says her lecture will cover the golden age of music in Finland during the late 19th Century.  She says that was a time when artists focused on defining what it meant to be Finnish. She says it led Finland to be an independent, highly cultured society.

"In a way creating their culture by taking this heritage and turning it into paintings, sculptures, symphonic works, and other plays for example poetry," said Goss.

The public is invited to see her presentation Wednesday at NMU's Reynolds Recital Hall at 7:30 p.m.
