HOUGHTON -- Despite the snow in Houghton on Tuesday, Michigan Tech's Spring Career Fair was still on in the Student Development Center.

Students trekked through the blizzard to talk to companies about their future after college. There were 229 companies present to talk with students about possible jobs and internships.

A study of 74 percent of Tech students in the 2011-2012 school year showed students had a 94 percent placement rate. Michigan Tech cancelled classes on Tuesday at noon. Many students say they wouldn't let the snow stop them from making these important connections with future employers.

"I'm really happy that classes were cancelled today so I had more of an opportunity to be at the career fair for longer," said student Kaitlin Hannum. "So it kind of worked out, because we had classes cancelled at noon, and that's when the career fair started."

"A lot of us had to come from class to get up here or go home and change, so it's been crazy, but it's been fun," added student Patrick West. "A lot of companies are hiring, so it's looking pretty good for people who are graduating for full-time."

The Spring Career Fair was from noon to 6 p.m. in the SDC. Tech has two career fairs ever school year, one in the fall and one in the spring.
